FAQ & Technical Notes - RDC-i700
Question:
What do I need to communicate with the RDC-i700?
Answer:
To use the RDC-i700's e-mail, web browsing, and FTP upload functions, you need the following:
- A Ricoh-recommended Type-II PC communications card
Insert the card into the RDC-i700's PC card slot to access the Internet.
- Telephone line or compatible mobile phone
You need access to a telephone line or a compatible mobile telephone.
- Information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
You need all ISP-related information, such as the telephone number of your local access point and your account name, and password.


To use the RDC-i700's Direct Upload and Fax Send functions, you need the following:

- Compatible Communications card
The card allows you to establish communication and access the Internet.
- Telephone line or compatible mobile phone
You need access to a telephone line or a compatible mobile telephone.
- Information about your intended destination
You need the destination's telephone number.

Question:
How can I connect the RDC-i700 to my PC?
Answer:
There are several different approaches:
- A compatible LAN card or LAN cable
- A USB cable (included with the RDC-i700)
- A serial port cable


Note: Please contact your local Ricoh Service Office for advice on obtaining the proper serial cable for the RDC-i700, as well as the serial adapter cable needed if you use a Macintosh.

What browser does the RDC-i700 use?
Answer:
The RDC-i700 employs Netfront 2.0 from Access Co., Ltd. When you control the RDC-i700 from your PC, you can also use Internet Explorer (at least version 4.01) or Netscape Navigator (at least version 4.6).

Can you send images between RDC-i700s?
Answer:
You can e-mail an image up to 300k in this manner.

Can you connect the RDC-i700 to any cell phone?
Answer:
The Nokia cardphone 2.0 is also compatible.
We will upgrade our firmware to be compatible with other cell phones.
The RDC-i700 can also communicate using the modem cards below over regular phone lines (PSTN).
