When installation is completed, the RDC-i700 icon will be mounted in the folder
display area of Internet Explorer.
During installation of this Explorer Plug-In software, the following can also be
selected and installed:
* Explorer Plug-In ... Explorer Plug-In software
* Direct Upload ... Software for reception of direct communication.
* RDC-i700 USB/serial communication software... The driver for USB/serial
connections.
* TWAIN... The TWAIN driver.

All of these are installed during the standard installation but individual items
can be selected and installed by using custom installation.

2. Using RDC-i700 Explorer Plug-In
* Refer to the operation manual for details.
(1) Connect the personal computer and RDC-i700 using an USB cable or serial
cable, or connect via a LAN.

Important
* Set the camera mode dial to "Communication mode."

(2) Select the RDC-i700 icon mounted in the folder display area of Explorer,
click the right mouse button to select "RDC-i700 Properties" and then specify
the IP address.

Important
* Make sure the IP address is displayed on the LCD monitor of the camera.

(3) Double click on the RDC-i700 icon mounted in the folder display area of
Explorer to display the window of the internal memory and other card(s) if
inserted.

(4) The DCIM folder and other folders can be opened and displayed by double
clicking on any of the memory icons.

(5) Double click on the "100RICOH" folder inside the DCIM folder to display
the camera files stored in that folder.
These files can be copied to other folders in the personal computer by using
drag and drop.
Image files in the personal computer can also be transferred and stored in a
folder in the camera. Various template files, Guide List files, etc.,
can also be transferred to the storage memory of the camera.

3. Usage precautions

(1) This application is for use only with the Ricoh RDC -i700 camera.

(2) Files cannot be stored in the RDC-i700 even by using this application to
specify the RDC-i700 as the recording destination. This is also true when a file
in the RDC-i700 is opened and "Save as.." is specified.

(3) The flash lamp (red) will blink during data communication with a personal
computer.
Never disconnect the cable or turn off the camera power during communication.
Such actions can adversely affect the camera or personal computer.
If the cable is connected during communication, turn the camera and personal
computer power off and then on again.

(4) Whenever possible, use the AC adapter instead of the camera battery.
The camera and personal computer can be adversely affected if power is lost
during communication.

(5) The RDC-i700 icon always appears in the folder display area, even when the
camera is not connected.
A communication error will occur if the internal memory icon or SmartMedia icon
is clicked when the camera is not connected.

(6) The camera will not operate with the power supplied by the USB port.

(7) Correct operation is sometimes not possible when USB is used to connect
other USB devices such as HUB, etc.

(8) To open a camera file with this application, click on the file name
displayed in the file display window. These files cannot be opened by entering
the file name in the File Name dialog box.

(9) Depending on the application (Office 2000, etc.), it is sometimes not
possible to directly access the RDC-i700 from the File Select dialog box.
In such cases, use Explorer to copy the files from the RDC-i700 to the personal
computer beforehand. With TWAIN compatible applications, use the TWAIN function.

(10) Before copying image files to the RDC-i700 Image directory
(100RICOH, etc.), the image file format will be automatically converted to the
RDC-i700 format.
Since the file size can increase, depending on the format conversion, copying
may not be possible in some cases because of insufficient memory capacity.
Files with a format that cannot be converted cannot be copied to the image
folder.

(11) Depending on the proxy server settings, correct operation may not be
possible in some cases when a Web browser is used to connect to the RDC-i700.
In such cases, set the Proxy Server setting to OFF in the browser option or LAN
option setting.

(12) When using a direct communication server, use either
the "Never dial a connection" (for IE5) or "Use LAN to Connect to Internet"
(for IE4) as the dial-up setting for Internet Explorer Properties.

(13) When a direct communication server is running Windows 98, make sure a
dial-up adapter has been added to "Network Properties."
